Introduction

Agrivi is an agritech (agriculture technology) startup that promises to** solve the world food problem** by providing farmers with knowledge-based software solutions.

My role

In 2016. Agrivi secured a significant investment to support its growth and product development. Growing up in the countryside surrounded by crops and domestic animals, I understood the pain points that farmers face. So, I decided to join the team and design products that solve actual problems. I was the first designer to join the team and was responsible for the entire product.

Projects

I was hired as an outsourced designer with no obligation for the company to use any of the designs I created. Nevertheless, much of my work ended up shaping the product as it was being developed. The following are some of the projects I worked on:

Branding

Utilizing young leaves for the company logo, despite its clichéd nature, proved to be a decent choice. Agrivi, being a young startup, offered a product tailored to the requirements of small and growing agricultural businesses.

Colours and Typography

I wanted to find colors that felt friendly and inviting, so I chose warm green shades reminiscent of sunlit leaves. I decided to use the Sofia Pro font because it perfectly balances modernism and graceful curves, capturing the beauty of nature that I was aiming for.

The Fibonacci sequence reflects nature's perfection. So, using the numbers as a guide, I constructed two stylized leaves, adding a lowercase wordmark to make it friendly and approachable.

Web application

Creating the field and crop management web application was a major challenge and took most of my time due to the wide variations between crops, seasons, and countries. The differences in organisational structure, such as cooperatives and individual farmers, further complicated the task. Unfortunately, due to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), I can only share blurred highlights of my work.

Website

I've also worked on the website and other public pages, creating wireframes, custom icons, and illustrations.

Mobile application

The mobile app was created to include all the functions available in the web application. It was intended for small-scale farmers who required a tool to manage their daily tasks while also being able to access the insights and analytics offered by the web application.

Reflection

As an outsourced designer, I experienced both the advantages and challenges of the job. It provided me with the freedom to express my ideas without being overly concerned about others' opinions, as both the client and I understood that my goal was to share the best of my knowledge. On the other hand, I could not see the impact of my work or have the final say on what should be accepted.
