Introduction
Vibby was a US-based startup with offices in Zagreb and New York, founded by brilliant college graduates, including world-class programmers. They aimed to create a personalised and interactive online learning platform using online video. When they pivoted to build an interactive video tool, I joined the team.
The Challenge
Our task was to make online videos more interactive and highlight essential parts for the audience. Despite the lack of prior startup experience, I believed in the potential of this idea and was eager to contribute.
My Role
As the first and only designer, I was involved in all aspects of product creation, from rebranding to interactive wireframes. I designed the video player UI and worked on interactive videos, websites, and investor presentations. Additionally, I contributed to the frontend development by converting designs into working code.
Experiences
Vib Creation Process
We developed a three-part process for highlighting key video segments. After several iterations and user testing, we simplified the steps to make it user-friendly.
Vibby Player
We focused on creating an intuitive player for viewing highlighted video parts and experimented with different commenting methods.
Final Experience
Creating and sharing a 'vib' became an engaging process. The project required significant time for design and development but also involved other product and marketing aspects.
Website
Communicating the concept of short highlighted videos was crucial. We designed web pages to explain this new functionality clearly.
Reflection
My time at Vibby was one of the most enjoyable periods of my life. I loved tackling technical and creative challenges and cherished every moment spent working with the team.
Was Vibby a Success?
Yes and no. While it didn't reach a massive global audience, it succeeded in other ways. We saw user sign-ups grow from a few weekly to over 100 daily. The experience introduced me to the startup world, allowed me to work with brilliant people, and fostered lasting friendships.
